My Laser Eye Surgery Story: One Patient’s Experience

I chose Photorefractive Keratectomy over Lasik because I did not want the slightest possibility of my active lifestyle leading to a dislocation of the cornea flap.

PRK is an older and more painful form of laser eye surgery. The cornea is sanded away after a local anesthetic is applied. The laser adjustments are painless, but my vision did not instantly improve as it would have with Lasik. I suffered through a month of extreme sensitivity to light, which caused me to wear sunglasses even at night. I was fully blind for two days while I followed a regimen of steroid drops in each eye. When the healing was done my vision was returned to 20/20.

Laser eye surgery vastly improved my life by freeing me from glasses. In five years my sight has not diminished in the slightest, and I have no risk of cornea disruption.
